Physical Therapy & Sports Massage

Physical Therapy is a hands-on patient-centred approach focusing on the manual treatment of the musculoskeletal system.

Therapists assess and diagnose underlying conditions and problems that have arisen due to injury, dysfunction or stress. Based on a detailed case history and functional assessment, a treatment plan will be designed for your condition utilising a range of manual techniques followed by a rehabilitation program to return the patient to full health.

It has a strong focus on evidence based health science principles and works alongside other health care practices.

Physical therapists can treat wide range of conditions from neck, back & shoulder pain to low back pain, sciatica, leg, knee & foot pain, as well as headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve injuries.

What happens during physical therapy treatment?

Consultation
On your first visit there will be a comprehensive history take and full assessment carried out.
This information will help your physical therapist build a picture of your injury or condition

Assessment
This will then be followed by an assessment of the injured and surrounding areas. Posture, palpation and range of movement will be assessed followed by evidence based special tests to help identify the structures involved in the injury or condition.

Treatment
Once a diagnosis has been formed the treatment will be carried out. This will consist of soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release, muscle energy techniques, trigger point release and joint mobilizations to help release the restricted area.

Rehabilitation
An important part of physical therapy is rehabilitation to help fully heal the tissue and prevent the injury reoccurring. A program will be tailored to suit the individual and suit their lifestyle needs.
